RCC - Reinforced Cement Concrete
Question:-
Option (A)
the fluid flows along a straight path
Option (B)
the fluid does not rotate as it moves along
Option (C)
the net rotation of fluid particles about their mass centres remains zero
Option (D)
the stream lines of flow are curved and closely spaced
Correct Option:
C
Question Solution:
A flow is said to be irrotational if the fluid particles while moving in the direction of flow do not rotate about their mass centres. A true irrotational flow exists only in the case of flow of an ideal fluid for which no tangential or shear stresses occur. The rotation of a fluid particle is always associated with shear stress, because the rotation can be caused only by a torque exerted on the fluid particles and this will be produced by the shear forces. As such in the case of flow of fluids having larger viscosity or in the regions of flow field where the viscosity of the fluid has predominance the flow is invariably rotational flow.
